News: The modern name of Kent is derived from the Brythonic word kantos meaning "rim" or "border", or possibly from a homonymous word kanto "horn, hook"

I did the same till Paul kindly helped me out   :)

With a bit of man power and a JCB this one could be a great find instead of another lost piece of history

Just realised the leaflet map shows 2 point Gs!!! The one you refer to on top of the hill and the (wrong) one I was referring to at Court Fm Thurnham beside the M20 & railway.  :)
On top of the hill is where you'd expect it to be with line of sight to the Thames.

Well done hope you enjoyed your searching. I think it said on the leaflet the chalkhole he used had been filled in.
 Theres a bit more info on this link

Thats a shame :( ,nice try and well done :)

I think that there is a good chance it is the site as it mentions a bit of a valley heading out towards the thames.
Maybe it's big horse I'm a Londoner. :{

Had a trip over there and not looking good.... If this is the site it's been filled in with mud and rubbish. I tried to get through some of the weeds and nettles to have a good look but eventually it hurt to much

I enclose some photo's

A view from the top of the bank looking towards the river. I could just see a power station

It seems more probable as if you follow a line to the Thames theres no obstruction and it heads towards Sheerness.

Still need to get over the downs though

That pic in the leaflet sort of matches the zoom in.

I think the top of it could still be there,if it is the place it will be well overgrown.

There is a light patch on that zoom in,But i think its a bush?

Maybe it's big horse I'm a Londoner. :{

Looking at the ground levels , the quarry is about 70m above sea level, Detling Hill is about 2000m from it at a height of about 190m so the angle from the quarry would be about 1 in 20 or less  to clear the hill, extend that line to the Thames Estuary and we are talking about an altitude of 2-2.5 Km. Is this feasible?
