I have found another reference to this tunnel.  Apparently it was open in the 60's and the council sealed it again!

I will have to have a trip up the library and see if they have anything!

Anyone know anything about it?  Apparently the entrance still remains near Scocles Road.  There was a story about a guy that owned a bungalow there, he found an entrance in his kitchen.  He went down it and came back white as a ghost holding a sword.  I don't think he ever told anyone what he saw.  He blocked the tunnel straight back up again.
Any info appreciated!
