News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

The pump was presented to the town in 1867: Whitstable's first horse-drawn fire pump, to be manned by twenty-six volunteers and originally donated to Whitstable by Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society

I think a similar one sits in the Kent museum.

I believe its the oldest bit of kit they have?

I would say anywhere from 1800 to 1880-ish, judging from the design.

Any idea of its age?
It's no use getting old if you don't get artful

Lovely restoration job. A wonderful example of a manual engine used by the Insurance Brigades.

Whilst in Whitstable on Saturday  went into the museum.

This is Whitstable's first fire engine, it's been restored to go in the museum.
I did ask if I could take photos, it's always best and polite to ask first.
