Kentish Gazette - Tuesday 20 September 1785 & Friday 23 September 1785

CHATHAM LINES, Sept. 17, 1785.
NOTICE is hereby Given,
That 1,900,717 bricks, now laying in Mrs. Smithís Brick Field, St. Margaretís, are be removed to the Lines, and deposited between the Picketed Fence that encloses Fort Amherst and the Engineers Office, with Permission bring them through the Upper Barracks.
Proposals will be received at the Engineers Office, on the Lines, on Monday, the 16th Instant, at Eleven o'Clock in the Forenoon, from all Persons who are willing to remove the whole, or any Part, not less than One Hundred Thousand, on or before the 1st of December next.
The Money to be paid by the Storekeepers at the Gun Wharf, on compleating the Work, which will certified and ordered by the Engineer.
Labourers will provided by Government, to load and unload Bricks.

Glad you are all enjoying the posts.  That's all my easily accessed pics and cuttings about the fort for now, but if I find any others I'll add them as I find them.  I hate the hoarding of knowledge/research and think it's much better when its shared :)  So I'll keep posting what I find `til they stop me! *LOL*
