A memorial stone I found in Crockerhurst Rd, Shoreham, Kent (near the junction with Castle Farm Rd) inscribed with a passage from the bible on one side "Behold therefore I will allure her and will lead her into the wilderness and there I will speak to her heart".

On another side it is inscribed "pray for the soul of E.J.G.B"

and on another " and of A.J.B".

Frustratingly I have not been able to find out any information so far as to when or why it was erected and by whom. If anyone knows anything I would be pleased to hear from you.

Cliveh - thanks for your suggestion. Will send them an e-mail when I get five minutes to spare.

Sturoberts1975 - it is not near a church. It is at the roadside in a clump of trees surrounded by fields. There aren't even any buildings that close by. Its at the junction of two country lanes - Crockerhurst Road and Castle Farm Rd.

Having had a little Google I can at least say it's Cockerhurst Road, without the first 'r'.

Quick update to this post. I have e-mailed the Chairman of the Shoreham Historical Society as suggested. I will let you know if they are able to shed any light on this.
