No I was sitting here waiting for some mail to come in so I had a nose arround the sites. Couldn`t find Henry in 1871 His dad,Thomas, was a widower by then. Maria had died in 1865. I couldn`t find a death for his first wife. Incidentally, the Directories are searchable on line .

I think Kyn has the link on here somewhere already, if not save it for others.

Thanks for that grandarog, very informative, did you already know about him or did you search the censuses? (Why didn't I think of that!?). That's why I like this forum, there is usually someone (or many someones) with the answer to most questions!

I just checked the 1911 Census and he was at 222 Canterbury Street then. Interestingly he has been married 27 years to Alice Emmeline. I wonder if the name Emmiline Villas in 1891 is anything to do with her?

I guess Canterbury Street was known as Canterbury Road in the 19th century. I wonder why it changed?

I've found a few old photographs by a Henry Hill who was a photographer in Gillingham just before World War 1. I'm not sure how long he worked in the area, but he was definitely in the area about 1911-12. Does anyone happen to have a directory or anything that lists him with an address?
