Thanks for that info swiftone, I knew the White House had been in that general area, but wasn't sure exactly where.

Maybe it has always been a shop then, but for some reason to me it really does look like it should have been a pub once!

I think you are on the wrong track. The White House pub was on the river side of Pier Road opposite Corporation Road and was still there in the 1960's. The original White House I believe was the old farmhouse of Whites Farm. I can only remember the shop on the corner of Milner Rd being a shop going back to the 1940's.

The pub I thought it might have been (The White House) closed down around WW2 I believe so it could have been the pub before it became a shop.  Or the White House might have been a different building in that general area.

Hi As far as I remember it was a shop in 1976 when I moved here from London.

Every time I pass the old shop on the Corner of Milner Road/Pier Road in Gillingham I think it looks like it should have once been a Pub, but have no idea if it was. I've only ever known it as a shop (one that used to make really nice sandwiches), and remember for many years it had a sign up saying it was the last food stop before the motorway! So has it always been a shop or was it previously a pub?  I did wonder if it was the White House located in Navy Row, but I'm not sure if the road was still Navy Row at this point (before it all became Pier Road).

I discovered I don't actually have a photo
of ir, but here it is on google earth: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=51.394777,0.55575&spn=0,0.000871&t=h&z=21&layer=c&cbll=51.394777,0.55575&panoid=8gpa0GGcPDUo63nzjsCI-g&cbp=13,183.44,,0,5
