News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

This is a plan of Folkestone West Battery which was situated about 500 yards west of the main Copt point battery, this site was manned by 339 heavy battery RA from july 1940 until may 1942 when they were replaced by 413 coast battery with elements of No.5 platoon "B" Company, 8th battalion home guard.
