Hi all you good folk, ref the Rising Sun pub . I lived in Union St until it was demolished, so the Rising Sun plus the Blackmoors Head were my locals.
Had many a good pint in both establishments, often played bat and trap in the 'Sun any one recall a few names from the late fifties or early sixties, Sid Stears and his wife Betty, Sids brother Ted , Peter Burgess ,Colin Gale ,
Remember the euchre schools , plus that most serious of games dominoes, always a game in progress and of course darts. Sadly I can't remember the landlords name , only the fact he lost fifty pounds on the horses on a coach trip to Brighton races (Pilchers of course) five weeks wages for me at the time.👍

Yes LynL and doing well trade building weekly. Cleaned up and looks good an a good pint. Shows it can be done after having a bad name.

I like the No Coaches sign in the window, can't really imagine a coach pulling in there, bit off the main road.

My dad used to take me in and buy me a coke with the grease proof straws and a packet of crisps with a blue twisted bag of salt.

I like the fact that, apart from painting the upper part white, it's hardly changed a bit has it?  :)

Quoting from the booklet "Rochester Inns and Signs" by Edwin Harris: This inn has also been re-built. One peculiarity of the old house was, that it dispensed strong liquors inside, on the outside, at the upper end, was a covered well-house and well where the aqua pura could be obtained free of charge. The Rising Sun was a badge of Edward III and forms part of the arms of Ireland, but the sun shining was a cognizance of several kings....... I went in this pub the other year and the new landlord showed me a victorian newspaper cutting, stating that a man went into the pub`s outside toilets and cut his own throat! This room is still there. They also claim that so far they have seen three different ghosts in the pub, the last people that had it also claimed that it was haunted on the landing by a lady wearing a long dress.

Came by the Rising Sun on the delce today and it was shut.

Walked past it this afternoon and it was open. No customers that I could see, mind you.
