This thread might be too old but I'm related to the Mark Packer who owned the bakery.

1960s, Kent Cameras was there, just a bit out of shot up by the Strand bus stop.  In the late 40s, early 50s Mr Butler used to deliver Packer's bread to us in Churchill Avenue - with his horse and cart.

I can remember the horses backing in their vans into the entrance off the busy High Street where a horse can just be seen in Numanfan's photo. As I recall the stables were up the hill, Institute Hill?, then round behind the main premises. The horses used to to take a run at the hill with the drivers hanging on for dear life!!! Cant recall any motor vans, but they must have had some. Packers were also feed / corn merchants and you could buy a sack of hay there for the rabbits. I have a feeling this may have been a side line for the yard boys rather than a "proper" sale though!

Wasn't the pet shop called "Paws, Claws, Feathers and Fins"?

Morris & Turner, bathroom & fireplace dealers, were in the Cash Converters building in the 1980's. Not sure when they left, but they are now located out at Street End Road, Luton.

There was a pet shop, but it was smaller than 'Cash Converters'. It may have been nearer to Luton Arches

That's where cash converts was, for those who are not sure as to where the building was.

Wasn't it also a pet shop in the 70s and early 80s, I'm sure I was bitten by a "lovely" pet rat in there.
