Back in the 60s, when driving along the main road, it used to be a bit of a highlight of the journey to spot the dome of Mereworth as we drove past. Ahh, such simple pleasures back then  :)

Thanks for replies :)

What a shame such an outstanding building and gardens in the middle of our county is denied to us.

I guess there are too many security issues to allow open days.  I understand from reading further the that owner has some extremely valuable collections.

The owner also owns many other amazing properties in the UK.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahdi_Al_Tajir

It is Mereworth Castle, last I knew it was very much private - owned by Middle Eastern family?

I have a vague memory of being taken round the house in a party from my mother's Townswomens Guild. So possibly mid 1950's when I was only 5yrs old. I'm sure that even then the owners only very infrequently opened the doors to us oiks.

While following the Wateringbury Stream - a watercourse which cropped up on a currect 'Guess the Place' thread I noticed this rather grand mansion.

Does anyone know anything of it's history and details of who lives there etc ?

I've been unable to confirm the name of the property so far but I'm sure someone on here knows :)
